New rules for labels accompanying all fishery and aquaculture products for EU consumers – Update by APC s.a.
APC s.a. would like to inform you that from 13 December 2014 the rules for labels accompanying all fishery and aquaculture products for EU consumers will change.
Regarding aquaculture products, from now on it is mandatory to appear:
- Commercial and scientific names (ex. Sea bass Sparus aurata)
- Production method and area (ex. Farmed fish (aquaculture) Greece)
- The date of minimum durability (ex. Best before: 25.12.2014)
- For live bivalve molluscs, the ‘best before’ date can be replaced by the label ‘these animals must be alive when sold’.
- Allergens. Clear reference to the name of any allergens should be included in the list of possible extra ingredients.
- Identification mark (ex. Greece XX-YYY-ZZ EC)
Additional requirements for prepacked products:
- List and quantity of ingredients
- Net quantity (Net weight)
- Conditions for storage and use
- Name or business name and address of the food business operator
Also:
- There are more rules for processed fishery and aquaculture products
- There is the possibility to display voluntary information (ex. QR code)
- From 13 December 2016 will be mandatory to display further more information like the nutrition declaration
